MATERIALS AND THEIR PROPERTIES This collection of activities can be used in countless ways. I have provided a set of bulletin board chart displays with a specific material (metal, wood,plastic, fabric, rubber, paper, clay, leather) and corresponding name labels. These can be used as a display and/or children can play a game and sort the property labels to match each material. e.g rubber – stretchy, flexible etc I have provided an assortment of smaller pictures (which can be laminated for whole class or simply copied for each student) to be used as a sorting activity. I usually have the children tell me how to sort them and write these down and define these as the properties of materials…there is no right or wrong way to sort them.! The property words can be used to build vocabulary as flashcards also.
